Question by Hsdhs: Why do they say gastric bypass surgery is better than lap band?
I am sure my doctor is making it up as he goes because he said people with lap band often don’t lose much weight and is pretty ineffective compared to gastric bypass

Best answer:

Answer by Tyler
Working out to lose weight is much better because then you have less excess skin, naturally feel better, have a lower risk of complications with your health and feel better about yourself. And for the record lap band is not always successful whereas unless their are health complications, gastric will always result in you losing weight.

Question by Kushan T: How much does a lyposuction surgery cost?

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Peachy®
It’s liposuction and it’s expensive…. risky too. Especially when compared to a healthy diet and exercise program which costs nothing extra (you have to eat anyway). Liposuction, gastric bypass, lapband surgery are all insane when you think about it. Only the medical professionals benefit from it. If you have the surgery, you will be faced with the same problems that caused the accumulation of fat in the first place. So, why not solve the problem instead of addressing the symptoms? Eat a healthy diet and walk an hour a day. I lost over 50 pounds following this simple premise and my diabetes has reversed to the extent that I no longer take ANY medication for it. Trust me, I’ve done a ton of research into diet and exercise and to expect doctors to fix your problems is absolutely LUDICROUS.

I am scared, and I have been crying for weeks.
I mean, yes, my sister is obese. But I am so scared. I dont want her to die. How can I calm myself down?? And should she go through with the operation? Thanks [serious answers only=]]

Answer by hecla 1
The surgery is her decision, so whether or not she should do it has nothing to do with you. There are risk with all kinds of surgery, the best thing you can do is be supportive.

A friend of mine had the gastric bypass surgery but she still eats a lot in one sitting and then goes to the restroom. Is it possible that her intestines and stomach are damaged and are keeping her from getting pregnant?

Best answer:

Answer by Hobbit__song
I don’t really see a reason why it would, unless her uterus is damaged or if the food or amount of it is affecting her ability to get pregnant.
it may just be that she cant’ get pregnant, because many women can’t.

I am buying a secret santa gift for a friend of mine. I know she likes various types of dessert food, so I think that would make a good present. However, she had gastric bypass surgery last year, so I’m not exactly sure what she can eat (usually she eats normal food but smaller servings, something like that). Can anyone who’s had the surgery or knows people who have give any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Question by Hamsters are beautiful: I heard there were weight loss drugs coming out in the next year or two that will make gastric bypass obsolete
I went with my friend to her doctors after gastric bypass and he mentioned that in the short future that new drugs would be approved by the FDA that would make gastric bypass and banding obsolete. Does anyone know the names of these drugs?

I feel very certain this doctor knew what he was talking about since he specializes in those surgeries and did 2800 of them or so.

Best answer:

Answer by TheMorbidMe
No, this is not true, just because no matter if you diet or if you go under the knife, the ultimate success is based on your willingness and in your real commitment in changing your life, even with Gastric Bypass surgery. What i am trying to tell you is that there is no miracle cure for obesity, it is a process that has many variables you have to take care of to succeed. I had the operation and I am fine and so far I succeeded, but I truly know that if I take old bad habits again, I will start to go back…

Question by YoMomma: What Meds were you on immediatly after gastric bypass?
I am wondering what meds you were on when you came home from the hospital after gastric bypass. How did you cope your first few days home?
OF COARSE I will talk to the Dr. I am not just gonna come home and start popping pills. The question is to get a sense of what other experienced when they came home from the hospital. What were those first few days like. Thansk!!!

Best answer:

Answer by ♥♥The Queen Has Spoken♥♥
A person should go by their doctor’s recommendations for what to take in meds and nutritionally. If the doctor you are working with doesn’t supply that information you need to talk to a different doctor. That should all be part of the process.
