There is no doubt that obesity is becoming a major problem in different parts of the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared that it is becoming a major problem for all different demographic groups and needs to be addressed immediately. Around 97 million adults in the United States are currently considered to be obese. This shocking figure means that over half of Americans are at least overweight. Around 11 million adults in the U.S are actually obese. Obesity is essentially excess body fat and it comes with a number of health risks.
Criteria for laparoscopic weight loss surgery:
- Having a BMI of over 39
- Having a BMI between 30-40 and having other health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, painful joints, arthritis, sleep apnea
- Over the age of 14
- Significantly overweight for more than five years total
- Failed to lose weight from diet and exercise
- No dependency on drugs or alcohol

Im 17 and and a candidate for the lap band surgery, the only problem is that i dont have a way to pay for it, is there any scholarships. I ffeel like it would be good for me and my parents agree.
